The fine print

Now that we understand each other, let's get down to business.

Spitronics fitments

  1. 01When we do Spitronics fitments we take extreme care with all our joints. They are always soldered and heat-shrunk.
  2. 02We always install fuses on all required power sources. These fuses protect the ECU or TCU. If a fuse blows, it is highly recommended to fit a fuse of the same amperage. If it keeps blowing, it may be caused by a faulty coil, fuel pump or similar. Fitting bigger fuses will damage components in the ECU or TCU.
  3. 03Spitronics ECUs and TCUs are very durable and extremely reliable — but not idiot-proof. Jump-starting a vehicle or fitting a battery incorrectly may damage the ECU or TCU.
  4. 04Spitronics ECUs and TCUs carry no guarantee. If our wiring and fuse sizes are not tampered with, they will not blow.
  5. 05Wiring your vehicle takes time, because we do extremely neat and reliable wiring. Please do not rush us.
  6. 06The Spitronics ECU has nothing to do with your standard computer. It is a standalone management system that controls your engine's fuelling and timing.
  7. 07The Spitronics ECU cannot fix mechanical issues. We get many fitments on engines with no compression, blown coils, faulty distributors, faulty injectors or faulty fuel pumps. Please make sure the vehicle is properly diagnosed before the Spitronics fitment.
  8. 08Any faulty mechanical parts or sensors will be added to your final invoice.
  9. 09Connecting the instrument cluster (dash) is not part of a Spitronics install. We do try to pulse the standard computer to make everything work; if this does not work we will refer you to a company that specialises in clusters.

Conversions

  1. 01If the vehicle you are considering converting is your only family vehicle or only transport, please arrange a backup vehicle before we start the conversion.
  2. 02We will not take your old engine or gearbox as a discount on your conversion. Sell your own engine and gearbox for extra cash towards the conversion.
  3. 03Though we take care of your vehicle, all vehicles and contents are left at the owner's risk. We are not liable for theft, fire damage or missing articles. All valuables must be removed.
  4. 04Any vehicle standing at our workshop for longer than 5 working days without a deposit will be charged R150 storage per day, until sold after 90 days.
  5. 05On acceptance of our quotation we require a 60% deposit before work starts. We require a deposit before we touch your vehicle.
  6. 06If your vehicle arrives while we are busy with a vehicle that was booked before yours, that vehicle will be finished first.
  7. 07Conversions carry a 30-day warranty from the date of delivery / invoice date. Terms and conditions apply.
  8. 08A conversion does not produce a new car. There may be small things that need attention or adjustment afterwards. If you want a hassle-free vehicle with factory guarantees, rather buy a new vehicle.
  9. 09In the event of related problems after delivery, the client must return the vehicle to our premises. We do not collect, deliver or tow vehicles. Failing to comply forfeits any warranty. If a problem recurs, please return the vehicle again until it is resolved.
  10. 10If you have someone else repair something on the conversion, we are not liable for those costs. We are also not liable for any towing or shipping costs, whatever the reason.
  11. 11Conversions are not factory guaranteed. By instructing us to convert your vehicle, all factory guarantees are forfeited — including those on radiators, clutches and fuel pumps. All parts used, new or old, carry no guarantee.
  12. 12By instructing us to do a conversion you give us permission to modify original mechanical and electrical parts to make the conversion work. This can weaken parts or cause loss of some functionality. We cannot be held responsible if some functions or parts do not match or go missing. Unused parts are discarded, or returned boxed in your vehicle if arranged beforehand.
  13. 13We can only pass on our suppliers' terms on parts and engines used, but we give a 100% artisan satisfaction guarantee (parts excluded). Engines carry only a 30-day start-up guarantee, which is why we bench-test them before fitment. If an engine fails after that period, or is overheated, repair or replacement is at your cost. Gearboxes carry no guarantee.
  14. 14Conversions and harness wiring are skilled, specialised and time-consuming work. Wiring an engine and gearbox harness can take 2–3 days, or one to two weeks depending on circumstances. A complete conversion can take between 4 weeks and 3 months depending on technical difficulty and parts availability — sometimes adaptors must be designed and manufactured. Please bear with us; rushing the work causes mistakes.
  15. 154x4 adaptors need a spline socket joining the automatic gearbox and transfer case, manufactured by an engineering company. This can take up to a month. We carry stock for a few types; delays start with conversions we have not done before.
  16. 16Adaptors are non-standard parts and can cause oil leaks. We do our best to eliminate them.
  17. 17Engines and gearboxes are second-hand. If they start leaking oil after delivery we will repair them at additional cost, as our suppliers give no guarantee on this.
  18. 18On completion we test the vehicle locally for approximately 100 km over a couple of days. We do not take vehicles on long-distance trips. If problems arise we strip and repair the defect; once satisfied we will ask you to collect and test the vehicle.
  19. 19We serve many customers who are all important to us. Work is first come, first served, which sometimes means a vehicle takes a little longer to complete.
  20. 20Engine conversions do not include suspension, brake, diff or gearbox upgrades unless specified or quoted.
  21. 21A V8 conversion does not turn a light vehicle into a truck. A 1-ton bakkie is designed to carry 1 ton and perhaps tow another 1,000 kg. Most Lexus V8 conversions are built as toys — if you need a commercial tow vehicle, please buy a vehicle designed for that application. We are not responsible for breakdowns such as overheating caused by exceeding the vehicle's design limits.
